Agro-Meteorological Station and Information Management System

The Agro-meteorological Station and Information Management System we’ve developed for our client embodies the IoT and has substantially improved agriculture tech from years past.

Background

The Agro-meteorological Station and Information Management System we’ve developed for the client exactly adopts the way of Internet of Things to achieve the automation in observation, network in transmission, informatization of data, visualization of agricultural condition.

In the country’s major agricultural production areas, only part of them are now mechanized. Most activities like pest control, crop irrigation, topdressing and soil moisture monitoring on other areas still rely on manual operation, supervision, even traditional experience because of the lack of scientific guidelines. So losses can be easily made due to all these above stuff with addition of the meteorological disaster caused by the weather and other factors.

Our Solution

If using Internet of Things in daily farm work, and managing the farmland through “Internet + Meteorology”, it is possible to reduce a lot of labor charges while ensuring the growth of crops in these automated operation ways such as real-time monitoring of meteorological data, APP supervision and disaster/ soil moisture information issue.

Client Demand

An early warning and agricultural activities’ adjustment can be made according to the information collected by the real-time monitoring of meteorological data and real-time video in the farmland; all operations will be tracked and managed by using Internet of Thing, to offer a whole analysis of agro-meteorological information and a meticulous service of agricultural instruction. In general, it will be helpful to provide scientific basis for development of agricultural climatic resources, adjustment of plant policy and disaster prevention and reduction of agro-meteorology, as well as guaranteeing food security.

Our Implement Plan

First, install an agro-meteorological station based on solar energy, 3G/4G, camera and meteorological sensor on the farmland of each pilot. Then a web-based system will be built to display the real-time data of temperature, rainfall, wind power, soil moisture, as well as the growth of crops, so agency of agriculture and forestry, meteorology can acquire first-hand agricultural news and make scientific decisions accordingly.

At the same time, all data and functions are available on the APP, which enables users to arrange the agricultural activities without leaving home.

In addition, three LED display screens will be set on the information center of meteorological bureau, farmland and outdoors to issue and upgrade the disaster/ soil moisture information. While a deinsectization light controlled by sensor and remote control is also installed.

Implementation and Results

The project is implemented into two phases: first phase is the installation of agro-meteorological station, which works independently and wireless via solar panels and 3G/4G instead of the laying of wire and network cable. A web-based system is also built to control all agrometeorological stations. And meteorological data such as temperature, wind direction, humidity, barometric pressure, rainfall, dew point will be transmitted to the system in real time, to help farmers deal with unexpected weather conditions. What’s more, a video can be made via the camera to show the latest agricultural information. The main features of the online web system are decision-making reference, meteorological service products, actual situation of the farmland, agrometeorological data, remotely control and science knowledge of agrometeorology. Therefore farmers and related agencies can arrange agricultural activities according to the web information. One pilot has found the hidden trouble timely through the system, and its crop yields has increased substantially compared to last year.

APP development is the second phase, its implement results consist of: enabling meteorological agency and agricultural department to acquire the latest agro-meteorological information and the growth of crops; promoting cooperation among various departments, such as a fusion of meteorological agency and basic-level service project of agriculture department, water conservancy office, forest department and postal department to provide the agro-meteorological service and products to the grass-roots users, a joint action between meteorological agency and agriculture department to issue information of weather forecast, technology of disaster prevention and reduction and monitoring and forecasting of insect pests. Thus farmers can arrange the agricultural activities scientifically and effectively instead of relying on traditional experience, and meteorological and agricultural information issued by meteorological agency seem to be more accurate.
